Judges Commentary*:
In Hello God: Are You There? author Vickie Fisher has created a very inspirational little book that offer short, in-depth verses and narrative on everyday emotions sure to resonate with readers from all walks of life. The topics vary from embracing change and new beginnings to overcoming grief and depression. The overall theme of this work, is to embrace life to the fullest by refusing to allow the burdens and obstacles we encounter discourage and overwhelm us to the point of no return. While Ms. Fisher uses faith as a guideline, you don’t have to share her faith to be enriched by this read. And that is a key point, at least for this reader. Regardless of what religion we are or aren’t, we still share the same need to be comforted during our time of need. The accompanying photographs are a gorgeous addition, each one specifically chosen for the particular narrative that accompanies it. Ms. Fisher’s decision to arrange the verses by topic allows readers to pick and choose a subject they might find particularly helpful at any given time. I love the cover art. And, while I am not particularly religious myself, I found the title absolutely perfect. All of this adds up to my choosing Hello God: Are You There as my winning entry.
Because this is my winner, there is very little I found that needs changing. Since I must pick something, however, I might suggest that the sentence length of some of the verses be a bit more varied in length. And, to nitpick, a few of the verses might be just a tad repetitive in nature. But that certainly didn’t stop this reader from enjoying every word. Well done, Ms. Fisher! Thank you for brightening my day.
